Exploring Verwood: A Scenic Walk with Jet

With spring in the air and the sun finally making an appearance, Jet and I decided to venture out to Verwood for a refreshing countryside walk. Verwood, nestled on the edge of the New Forest, offers a fantastic mix of woodland trails, open spaces, and peaceful surroundings—perfect for both two-legged and four-legged explorers!

The Walk

We set off on a well-marked trail that led us through tall pine trees and winding paths, with the sunlight streaming through the canopy. Jet, of course, was in his element—nose to the ground, tail wagging, and stopping every few minutes to investigate something new. The terrain was mostly firm underfoot, with a few muddy patches (Jet’s personal favourite part of any walk!).

One of the best things about this route is how quiet and serene it is. Unlike some of the busier walking spots, this trail allowed us to truly soak in nature, with only the sounds of birdsong and the occasional rustling in the undergrowth keeping us company.

Another highlight of this walk is the lovely stream that runs alongside part of the trail. It’s not too deep, making it the perfect spot for dogs to paddle and cool off, especially on warmer days. Jet wasted no time splashing around and enjoying a refreshing dip before continuing our adventure!

Dog-Friendly Highlights

This route is a great option for dog owners looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Here are some of the reasons why Jet gives it his paw of approval:

  • Plenty of space to roam – Wide paths and open clearings make for excellent running and exploring opportunities.

  • Shady woodland – Ideal for keeping cool on warmer days.

  • Minimal road exposure – A safe and enjoyable experience for dogs off-lead.

  • A variety of scents and sights – Perfect for curious pups who love to sniff their way through a walk!

  • A dog-friendly stream – Great for dogs who love to paddle or need a quick cool-down.

Tips for Your Visit

  • Bring water for both you and your pup, especially if it’s a warm day.

  • Sturdy footwear is recommended, as some areas can get muddy.

  • Keep an eye out for local wildlife—Jet was particularly interested in a few squirrels darting through the trees!

  • As always, be a responsible dog owner and clean up after your furry friend.

Final Thoughts

Verwood proved to be a fantastic spot for a peaceful yet engaging walk. It’s an excellent alternative to some of the busier New Forest trails, and I’ll definitely be adding it to our regular walking spots. If you’re staying at The Ashleigh and looking for a great dog-friendly walk, I highly recommend giving this one a try!
